Ultra-endurance, survival fitness, mental health and business - A ...

In just over 18 months time I'll be turning 40, which is not something I'm terribly looking forward to, but I want to approach it in the right frame of mind - and body.

I've known for a long time that I need to have more self-control and stick to things that I say I'm going to do, so here are a few things I would like before the big 4-0 comes along:

  1. Be fit enough to undertake an ultra-endurance event such as an ultra-marathon or century bike ride.
  2. Have mastered a few of the survival skills I've mentioned a few times.
  3. Be self-employed.

I know that may seem like a lot to aim for, but with small steps it may well be within reach, if not by my 40th birthday then certainly within my early 40s.

And here's how I intend to do it:

  • Small steps, like I said. Take things one step at a time but try to ensure I'm always making progress.
  • Monitor my progress. This is where I've let myself down in the past. I'm aiming to record progress (here) at least five times a week, possibly with a weekly round-up.
  • Re-evaluate every three months. See where I'm going and what I could change, if anything.

And, no, this is not an April Fool's joke...
