Readers defend Betty White?s ?white lie?

Readers didn?t like criticism of actress Betty White for deceiving fans by denying that she?d had plastic surgery.

Readers quickly came to the defense of popular actress Betty White, 89, over the recent newspaper column and blog post ?Betty White ?fesses up about plastic surgery,? which criticized her for joining ?a large and disreputable club: celebrities who deceive their fans by getting plastic surgery yet denying they have done so.?
She had said in an interview last year that ?she?s glad she hasn?t gone under knife ? and wishes her old friends followed in her footsteps and grew old gracefully.?
But in her new book, she says that ?in 1976 I had my eyelids done. I scolded myself forever, but now I?m glad I did it?
The blog and column said that photos of White showed that she wasn?t in great need of surgical help before the 1976 operation, but that the procedure did tighten some loose skin around her eyes.
White fan ForeverOCGirl replied:

?I?m sorry you?re saddened by Betty White?s little white lie. But then you?re only a man, so you can?t possibly understand what it?s like to live in this world as a woman.
?You see, the way people treat you doesn?t depend on the way you look. Woman learn very early that men evaluate them by looking. You men are designed that way, and you can?t help it.
?Do you think Betty White would have had a chance to show her charm and ability on camera if her eyes drooped like most old people?s eyes so that you couldn?t see them twinkle? Or if she had white, bushy eyebrows and stringy white hair?
?You can earn your living with your ability and your brain and nobody cares a hoot what you look like ? as a writer. As an actor, you might be evaluated differently, depending on how you looked.
?And because you have no innate understanding of that, you?re critical of the fact she lied. That?s WHY she had to lie. Because people like you don?t understand what it?s like to be a woman and survive in her world, and so you judge her by yourself. You don?t have to lie: why should she?
?I hope there is reincarnation and that you get reborn as a female. Preferably as a homely one who?s very smart!?
